MINDWORKS'S KEYONOTE ADDRESS & A SOCIAL CAMPAIGN WITH HAPPY ENDING
George Vareloglou, the Business Unit Director of Mindworks, delivered one of the keynote speeches at the Social Media Conference ’12, which was held last Friday and attracted more than 400 delegates.
His presentation was entitled “Social fun on steroids” and George focused on gamification, i.e. “the integration of game dynamics into a site, service, community, content or campaign in order to drive participation”. As he pointed out, “Gamification is not just a game” or a mere fad. It’s a sophisticated method, which boosts engagement and is definitely worth the buzz.
And in order to walk the talk, George urged people to create a fun experience, right here, right now. How? By tweeting #SOS and supporting the noble cause of the non-profit volunteering organization, “The Smile of the Child”. The delegates did, indeed, respond enthusiastically, while the ATCOM team galvanised celebrities such as Sakis Rouvas, Nikos Aliagas, Natalia Germanou and Nikos Hatzinikolaou who helped spread the message.
As a result, #SOS took off to such an extent that it became the third trending topic of the day, ahead of #SMCgr -the hashtag of the conference- #Greece and #ekloges12 (greek elections).
