Proto Thema, Greece's major newspaper and news portal, needed to respond to the dynamically growing trend of users accessing the web through their mobile and tablet devices. In fact, that amount was reaching a whooping 20% of their total users. ATCOM was called to map and realise the proper strategy to address this issue.
ATCOM went for the responsive web design solution, although in the case of Proto Thema, things were far more complicated, as we had to face 3 major challenges.
First of all, over 120 templates had to be designed, to cover the spectrum of 5 different dimensions; one dimension for the desktop viewport, two for tablets - portrait and landscape - and two more for the mobile viewports.
Secondly, the website's enormous archive needed to be taken into special account, as protothema.gr produces news on a 24-hour basis.
The third challenge ATCOM had to predict and overpass was the amount of the website's traffic; more than 3 million unique visitors with over 3,500 concurrent users per second, at any given time!
It took 29 people working on the project day and night, for over 3 months - but ATCOM made it and is extremely proud of it!
